Connecting Your Bank Account
Link your real bank accounts to Daily Bread for automatic transaction import via our secure bank sync.
Why Connect Your Bank?
While you can use Daily Bread entirely with manual transaction entry, connecting your bank account saves significant time:
Auto Import
Transactions import automatically — no more typing every purchase
Nothing Forgotten
Even that $3.50 coffee shows up in your budget
Stay in Sync
Your records match your bank for easy reconciliation
Less Friction
The easier budgeting is, the more likely you'll stick with it
How It Works
Daily Bread uses Teller, a secure banking API, to connect to your financial institution. Here's what happens behind the scenes:
Authenticate with your bank
Log in securely through Teller's encrypted widget
Connection established
Teller provides access to your transaction data
Transactions fetched
Daily Bread receives your transactions for review
You review and import
Decide which transactions to add to your budget
Note
Daily Bread never sees your bank login credentials. Authentication happens directly between you and your bank through Teller's secure, encrypted connection. Your transaction data is encrypted at rest.
Connecting Your First Account
Go to Settings
Navigate to Settings > Bank Connections from the sidebar.
Click Connect Bank
Click the Connect Bank button. This opens the Teller Connect widget.
Select your bank
Search for your bank or credit union in the Teller widget. Select it and log in with your bank credentials.
Choose accounts
After authenticating, you'll see your available bank accounts. Select the ones you want to link.
Link to Daily Bread accounts
Each bank account needs to be linked to a Daily Bread account. You can link to an existing account or create a new one.
After Connecting
Once connected, Daily Bread will:
- Fetch recent transactions from your bank
- Present them as pending imports for your review
- Continue syncing automatically throughout the day
New transactions typically appear within a few hours of posting at your bank. Daily Bread checks for new transactions multiple times per day.
Tip
You don't have to import every transaction right away. Pending imports wait for your review indefinitely. Many people review and import once a day or every few days.
Supported Account Types
Bank sync works with:
- Checking accounts
- Savings accounts
- Credit cards
- Money market accounts
Investment accounts and loans are generally not supported through bank sync, as they use different data formats.
Troubleshooting
Connection expired or disconnected: Banks occasionally require re-authentication. If your connection shows as disconnected, click Reconnect in Settings to re-authenticate with your bank.
Missing transactions: Bank sync fetches posted transactions. Pending transactions at your bank may not appear until they're fully processed (usually 1-3 business days).
Duplicate transactions: Daily Bread has built-in duplicate detection. If you've already manually entered a transaction, the import review will flag potential duplicates for you to resolve.
What's Next?
Once your bank is connected, the next step is learning how to review and import your transactions.
