§ Why Daily Bread

Your bank shows a balance.
Your budget shows the truth.

An account balance can’t tell you whether you can afford dinner — it doesn’t know rent is due, or that $600 is already promised to savings. A budget can.

Your bank says
$3,247
Available balance · checking
“Can I afford dinner out tonight?”
→ no idea.
Your budget says
Rent (due Apr 30)$1,200
Groceries$400
Bills & utilities$520
Savings$600
Dining out$180
Yes — you have $180 set aside for dining this month.
§ The wedge

Bank sync, the way it
should’ve always worked.

Connect once. Transactions land in the right category, automatically. No CSV imports. No reconciliation rituals. No $99/year.

// What that actually means
  • Real-time imports.Transactions appear within minutes via Teller — not after a 3-day batch lag.
  • Smart auto-categorization."Trader Joe's" → Groceries. "Spotify" → Subscriptions. You can override; it learns.
  • Multiple accounts, one view.Chase checking + Schwab savings + your Apple Card, sharing one budget.
  • Rollover balances.Underspent groceries this month? It rolls. Overspent dining? Cover it from another envelope.
  • Read-only, always.Daily Bread can see transactions. It can never move your money.

§ Also in the box

Built for the way you
actually use money.

Category goals

Set a target for savings, vacations, or "stop paying $48 for subscriptions I forgot about." Track progress without checking.

Rollover balances

Spent less on groceries? It rolls to next month. Spent too much on dining? Cover it from another envelope. Without judgment.

Money flow

See exactly where last month's paycheck ended up — a Sankey of every dollar from income to category to spend.

Life plans

Big-ticket goals (house, sabbatical, kid #2) tracked separately from monthly bills. So one doesn't eat the other.

§ From the beta

“I stopped checking my balance
five times a day.

“First month, I found $312 I didn’t know I was spending on subscriptions. By month two I had a real savings rate. By month three I stopped checking my bank balance five times a day.”
Mia Reyes · Designer · Austin, TX
“YNAB without the $99. Every dollar actually has a job now.”
Dev Patel · Eng · Brooklyn
“My partner and I finally have one budget — not two arguments.”

§ Setup

Five minutes,
three steps, zero fluff.

STEP 01 · ~60s

Connect your bank.

Securely link checking, savings, and credit cards via Teller. Read-only — Daily Bread can never move your money.

STEP 02 · ~3m

Give every dollar a job.

Assign your real money — not a hypothetical paycheck — to categories until "to be budgeted" hits zero.

STEP 03 · forever

Spend with confidence.

Open the app before any non-trivial purchase. The number tells you what you can actually afford — today.

§ Security

Your money. Your data.
Nobody else’s.

Daily Bread connects to your bank in read-only mode. We don’t sell data, we don’t run ads, and you can wipe your account in one click.

256-bit AES encryption

Bank-grade encryption at rest and in transit. Connection handled by Teller, the same provider trusted by Copilot and Lunch Money.

Read the security page
Read-only by design

Daily Bread can see your transactions. It can never initiate a transfer, payment, or withdrawal — there's literally no API for it.

How it works
No ad networks

We don't sell, share, or analyze your data for marketing. We make money the boring way: subscriptions, after beta.

Privacy policy
Delete anytime

One click in settings wipes your accounts, transactions, and budget history from our servers. SOC 2 audit in progress.

§ Real questions

The four things you’re
actually wondering.

How is this different from YNAB?+
Same philosophy, different shape. Daily Bread uses the same envelope/zero-based method YNAB pioneered. The differences: real-time bank sync (not a 3-day batch), no $99/year subscription during beta, and a UI built for the spreadsheet-budgeter who wants to do less with their budget — not become a power user of the budgeting app.
Is my bank data actually safe?+
Yes — and concretely. Bank connections go through Teller, who handle authentication and tokens. Daily Bread never sees your bank password. All connections are read-only — there is no code path that could move money. Data is encrypted at rest with AES-256, in transit with TLS 1.3, and you can delete everything in one click.
What happens when beta ends?+
You get 60 days notice and a real choice. Beta users get a permanent founding-member discount on whatever pricing we land on (current plan: ~$8/month). Don’t want to upgrade? Export your full budget history as CSV and walk away with no obligation. We’d rather lose you than trap you.
Does it work with my bank?+
Almost certainly. Daily Bread supports 12,000+ US banks and credit unions through Teller — including all major banks (Chase, BofA, Wells, Citi, Capital One), most regionals, and most credit unions. International banks aren’t supported yet. Search your bank →
